Do you experience difficulty reading standard print, holding a book, or turning the pages of a book? Then the Outspoken Library is for you!

Who is eligible?

New Jersey veterans and residents of any age who cannot easily read a standard print book, magazine or newspaper because of visual impairment, physical disability, or learning disabilities now have access to Outspoken Library computer kiosks at the Logan and Mullica Hill Branches of the Gloucester County Library System (GCLS).

 

Who provides these computer kiosks?

The computer kiosks have been provided by the New Jersey State Library Talking Book & Braille Center (TBBC). The TBBC is supported by funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

 

What kind of materials are available in the Outspoken Library?

Outspoken Library offers access to Audiovision Newspaper Reading Service and the National Federation for the Blind’s Newsline, containing over 300 newspapers, magazines and wire services.

The Outspoken Library kiosk also has live links to services administered through TBBC such as access to the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD). BARD currently provides over 18,000 digital books for download which can be played on a TBBC issued digital talking book player.  Video demonstrations and instructions on how to do a BARD download are also found on each Outspoken Library kiosk.

 

Does the Talking Book and Braille Center offer any home delivered services?

Yes, TBBC does offer home delivered services at no cost as they are a regional library of the National Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, a division of the U.S. Library of Congress.

Where are the GCLS libraries that have these Outspoken Library Kiosks?

The Logan branch of GCLS is located at 498 Beckett Road in Logan Township. The Mullica Hill branch is located at the corner of Route 45 and Wolfert Station Road in Mullica Hill.
